Kenya Rugeju AA - Coffee Beans

Medium Roast

sweet, bright, citrus

Grown in the Eastern Province near Nkubu town and located in a tea growing area, this coffee is everything you'd expect a Kenyan to be.

There is a Rugeju Farmer's cooperative which is part of a local coffee factory.  There is a factory manager and 5 permanent staff as well as casual workers, more in peak season, to deal with selection, grading and paying of farmers.  The farming community is supported with school fees, farm inputs and advance payments for coffee.

The area has red soil and experiences high rainfall of about 1400mm annually.  The temperature ranges from 13-25c with the 2 harvest periods being May/June and Nov/Dec.  The coffee is wet processed and dried on raised beds.

It is a delicious example of Kenyan coffee with bright grapefruit and lime acidity and a clean flavour with suggestions of blackcurrant and passionfruit.
