Coffee of the Month - Congo Kahondo Kivu - Coffee Beans

Medium Roast

almond, green apple, floral

Grown in the sandy clay-loam soil in North Kivu, near Butembo, this coffee is the product of 383 small holder farmers with around 0.5 hectare each.  The coffee is intercropped with banana and peas and grown at 1600m-1800m.  The coffee is then processed at the Kahondo washing station where it is pulped and has 18-24hr fermentation before being washed and dried on raised beds and hand sorted for quality.  This processing gives a great complexity and depth of flavour to the beans.

Kahondo is a heavy bodied coffee with a toffee aroma. It has notes of caramel and a subtle spiciness which develop into deep berry flavours of blackcurrant and blackberry.
